Presents cold and heat emergencies. Describes generalized hypothermia, its predisposing factors, stages of development and the body’s compensatory mechanisms. Demonstrates emergency care for hypothermia. Describes local cold injuries and demonstrates how to provide emergency care for local cold injury patients, including how and when to institute both active and passive rewarming techniques. Presents hyperthermia, including heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Describes predisposing factors and demonstrates how to assess and provide emergency care for heat emergency patients.
